Frans van der Hoeven

Frans van der Hoeven masterfully blends acoustics and electronics into a unique and immersive listening experience. Performing on both his English double bass and a custom-built Electric Upright from Japan, this Dutch bassist creates richly layered and versatile soundscapes.

He has given solo performances at major venues such as North Sea Jazz, Bimhuis, Saga Jazz (Japan), and The Sound of Europe, and has collaborated with renowned artists including Jack DeJohnette, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Jasper Blom, and Jesse van Ruller.

On his solo album First Flight, Frans not only plays double bass but also keyboards, guitar, drums, percussion, and even uses his voice — taking listeners on a musical journey where genre boundaries dissolve. His concerts unfold like a cinematic experience, with the double bass always at the heart and electronics adding a surprising extra dimension.
